David E. Frew, 92, of West Salem Township, was shot in the head by his son, David C. Frew, 51, of Sharpsville on Sunday, Oct. 6.
First responders were called to the scene in Mercer County around 5:30 p.m. that night.
The elder David Frew was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Robert L. Snyder. His cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head in a manner ruled Homicide, the coroner told us.
The younger David Frew was taken "by ambulance from the scene after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead in the emergency department of UPMC Horizon Greenville," the coroner said. His cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head in a manner ruled a suicide.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
The pair are survived by the younger David Frew's wife JJ of Sharpsville and his four children, according to his mom and the elder David Frew's wife, Anna May's obituary post on the Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. website. Anna May Frew died at the age of 89 on July 1, 2024.
